CEBU, Philippines — Some fishermen in Oslob, Cebu recently received various forms of assistance from Senator Bong Go and government agencies.

About 198 members of the Tan-awan Oslob Sea Warden and Fishermen Association received vitamins, food packs, masks and face shields.

Selected beneficiaries were also given bicycles as the legislator urged the beneficiaries to continue implementing health and safety protocols and never be complacent as the COVID-19 virus is still around.

Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also provided financial assistance and food packs.  They also distributed cash assistance to 176 beneficiaries through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program while the remaining 22 beneficiaries received food packs as they had already received assistance under the Social Amelioration Program.

The Department of Trade and Industry also came to assess and evaluate the beneficiaries who will be given livelihood assistance for those who wanted to engage in business.

Go also urged the fishermen to go to the nearest Malasakit Center located at the Talisay District Hospital where they can avail medical and financial assistance.

Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where the DSWD, PhilHealth, Department of Health and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office are under one roof.

Due to Malasakit Center’s streamlined services, Filipinos will only have to go to one office and fill up the unified Malasakit Form and their requests are processed immediately. Senior citizens and persons with disability are prioritized.

“Ako na magpapa-opera sa inyo sa ibang ospital. Kami na mamamasahe sa Manila kung hindi kaya sa Cebu. Ako na ang tutulong sa inyo na magpa-opera. Kahit ‘yung mga kamag-anak pa ninyo na kinakailangan ng tulong, lapitan niyo lang mga staff ko dahil handa kaming tumulong sa inyong lahat,” Go said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
