Former Dumanjug mayor Nelson Garcia passes away
CEBU, Philippines — The younger brother of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, former Dumanjug mayor Nelson Garcia, passed away on Tuesday night in a private hospital in Cebu City.
This was confirmed by his brother, lawyer Winston Garcia, through a post to Facebook.
“To my dearly beloved brother, words cannot express the deep sense of loss and grief for your untimely departure,” Winston’s post read.
No other details were disclosed as to the cause of death of the former mayor. The Garcia family has not released an official statement also as of writing.
The 61-year-old Nelson is the fourth child of former governor Pablo "Pabling" Garcia and retired Judge Esperanza “Inday” Fiel Garcia.
"Yoyoi (was) always the son, the brother, the husband and the father I wish and have always aspired to be,” Winston added.
Nelson became the mayor of Dumanjug from 2010 to 2016. He ran for congressional post in the seventh district of Cebu province but lost.
The Public Information Office of the Cebu provincial government also confirmed the passing of the former mayor of Dumanjug.
“He served the people of Dumanjug, Cebu, with devotion, as their Mayor for two terms. He served the Province of Cebu with dedication as President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines - Cebu Chapter,” read the statement published on Sugbo News, the Capitol-run news.
“By his wit, he brought the gift of laughter to our lives. By his perseverance, he taught us to endure and to hope, in love and in service to the people” the statement read further. — JMD (FREEMAN)
