Lapu-Lapu inspects hotels, resorts
CEBU, Philippines — Hoping to perk up its local economy that has been affected by the pandemic, the Lapu-Lapu City government, through its Tourism Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, has started efforts to revive the city’s hospitality industry.
TCHAC head Cindi King-Chan said that they are now visiting hotels and resorts to check their preparations on safety and wellness protocols set by the city government and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
In a statement released by the city’s information office, Chan said that they are looking forward to opening up the domestic tourism market to revive the hospitality industry.
“All of the hotels and resort general managers were thankful and most appreciative of our visits because some of their safety protocols still need improvements and our sanitary inspectors guided and gave them instructions to ensure the safety and health of not just their guests but also their staff,” Chan said.
The hotel and resort inspections started last week and are being led by TCHAC commissioner Sunshine Lim, BMO officer Celestino Quijano Pangatungan III, city health officer Grace Mary Chan-Carungay and sanitation inspector Ferdinand Tepait.
TCHAC officials have visited Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Mactan Newtown Beach, Savoy Hotel, Mo¨venpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu, Tambuli Beach Resort and Spa, Cebu White Sands Resort and Spa, Pacific Cebu Resort, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino and Sebastien Hotel.
“We really appreciate all the efforts shown, adhering to the safety protocols and precautionary measures, as we are all reshaping our tourism industry,” Chan said as part of the initial assessment.
Chan added that they also gave the hotel and resort officials update on the tourism recovery plan that is in line with the vision of Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan and will be implemented by TCHAC.
Last week, the city administration boldly declared it has won the war against coronavirus. The city remains under general community quarantine based on the latest classification from the IATF. — KQD (FREEMAN)
