Consolacion limits address details

Lorraine L. Ecarma - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The municipality of Consolacion, Cebu will stop disclosing the specific locations of new COVID-19 patients to avoid further harassment.

Through a Facebook update dated June 18, the local government of Consolacion has announced the decision of its contact tracing team to withhold the specific address of new patients beyond the barangay level.

“As observed in the past days, the COVID-19 positive patients identified in our town have been victimized by prejudice and judgements.  Let this be everyone’s reminder that in spite of knowing or not knowing the specific locations of these individuals, we are all advised to take care of ourselves at all times,” the post read.

Last Thursday, Consolacion had recorded seven new cases - two each from Barangays Pulpogan and Tayud, while Barangays Casili, Nangka and Poblacion Oriental posted one each.

Contact tracing and swabbing have been immediately conducted for the close contacts of the new COVID-19 patients, according to the Consolacion LGU post.

Meanwhile, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday reported that the province’s active COVID-19 cases have reached 375 already. Of this, 90 are hospitalized, 61 are under home quarantine and facility quarantine, while 224 are asymptomatic. A total of 145 patients have also recovered.

Cebu Province’s COVID-related death count is at 53, where eight of them are purely caused by the coronavirus disease, 39 are incidental deaths and six are yet to be diagnosed.  GAN (FREEMAN)
