PC Hills “Illegal settlers” given 3 months to leave

CEBU, Philippines —  Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 Director Albert Ignatius Ferro has assured to help the “informal settlers” at the PNP compound in PC Hills in Apas, Cebu City in their relocation, following the release of a letter asking them to vacate the area.

“In the spirit of being a Christian and Sugbuanos man ni, I’m lengthening the time before they vacate that area, we will look for their relocation because this is a government lot,” said Ferro.

Instead of a 30-day ultimatum indicated in the letter, Ferro said he will give these settlers three months to leave the property.

Since the lot is government-owned and designated for the active members of PNP, their stay is already considered illegal.

Ferro said some of these people living in PC Hills were using the premise as part of their businesses, using the structures as boarding houses or a house for rent.

He said there are some people who are living in the area for quite some time already.

“We will help them locate and come up (with) a good relocation site,” Ferro said.

In the demand letter, the PRO-7 has mentioned that the “unauthorized stay of these people has delimit the right of the qualified active PNP personnel to fully use the property over the existence of the erected structures.”

The letter added that the PRO-7 has given previous demands for them to vacate, but the settlers allegedly refused.  GAN (FREEMAN)
