CEBU, Philippines —  The Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 has gathered P11 million as its contribution in the “Bayanihan P200 million challenge” campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP), exceeding its target amount of just P10 million.

"We were able to (gather) the final amount of P11 million comprising the contribution  of our PNP personnel of PRO-7 and naay mga ga-contribute like the Regional Advisory Council, the Provincial Advisory Council, the Cebuanos from the different sectors of the society," said PRO-7 Director, Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro, in a press briefing Thursday morning.

Ferro added that some congressmen, businessmen and several Cebuano communities have also given their share in the challenge.

Though the PRO-7 has already considered the P11 million as its final amount that they will contribute, Ferro said they can still accept those who still want to donate and will remit it to the National Headquarters.

The “P200 million challenge” was initiated by PNP Chief Archie Gamboa to help the government to combat COVID-19. The PRO-7 has initially set P10 million as its target.

As of this writing, Ferro said they were able to exceed the target amount and added that the overwhelming support of the civilian had made them exceed its target amount.

"From the South na mga businessmen and congressmen, naghatag silag tag P100,000. So ang ilaha sa mga Sugbuanos naay P650,000, tapos and advisory council ng Province, they gave P100,000 and the different sub-organizations sa PNP like the PNPA Alumni Association of Central Visayas mihatag sila P150,000," Ferro said, enumerating some the organization who had donated also for the Bayanihan challenge.

With the amount they have gathered, Ferro said the Bayanihan in Central Visayas was 'very effective'.   GAN (FREEMAN)
