CEBU, Philippines — The authorities have formally disposed of about P1 million worth of illegal firecrackers that the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 had seized in operations during the holidays.
The police, along with the personnel from the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), had soaked the firecrackers with water.
Police Captain Romeo Caacoy of PRO-7, who was tasked to lead the disposal of the illegal firecrackers, said those disposed of were items illegally sold without the approval of the local government units.
Among the firecrackers seized are Piccolo, Goodbye Philippines, fountain and other prohibited firecrackers.
The operation was also in line with the “Oplan Iwas Paputok” campaign of the Department of Health-7 and the PRO7 during the holiday season.
Late last year, the personnel of the PRO-7 had raided a store of firecrackers and a warehouse where firecrackers were stored also went into flames.
Despite this, the police considered the Christmas and New Year’s celebration to be orderly and peaceful. GAN (FREEMAN)
