‘Sinulog sa SRP’ launching set

CEBU, Philippines — Three weeks before the much-awaited Sinulog Festival, the Cebu City government has announced that the South Road Properties (SRP) will also take part in bringing in the Sinulog hype.

“Sinulog sa SRP” is set to be launched on January 17, 2020, two days before the festival.

Two events namely “Balik Baroto Regatta” and “Fireworks Musical Competition” will happen on Sinulog Friday, which will take place in Il Corso, Filinvest Lifestyle malls, City di Mare.

On January 11, a drag race competition will also occur in the same area.

Councilor Jerry Guardo, who is tasked to oversee Sinulog sa SRP, said the newest addition to the Sinulog festivity was conceptualized by lawyer Joey Daluz who wanted to come up with an event promoting SRP.

The Regatta competition will be held in the morning of the scheduled date, while the fireworks musical competition will follow at night time.

David Odilao Jr., former chair of the Philippine Eagles National Presidents League and Sinulog sa Sugbo founder, said the Regatta competition can accommodate at least 50 participants.

In this competition, there are two categories- the baroto race and the baroto showcase.

However, only certified fishermen can join the competition, which will start and end at Il Corso. The participants have until SM Seaside City Cebu before returning to the starting line.

For the baroto race, the first, second,third, fourth, fifth, and sixth to tenth prize is P100, 000, P75, 000, P50, 000, P30, 000, P20, 000, and P50, 000 (at P10, 000 each), respectively. The consolation prize is P5, 000.

For the baroto showcase, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth prize is P50, 000, P40, 000, P30, 000, P20, 000, and P10, 000, respectively.

Meanwhile, Dragon Fireworks vice president for Vismin operations Jonathan Gesalem said that for those who would want to witness the Fireworks Musical Competition, the ticket is worth P200 and P500 (including dinner).

Three participants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao were already chosen for the competition.

After the presentation of the three contestants, the Dragon Fireworks will have an exhibition.

Gesalem said further details regarding the “big firework show” will soon be revealed.

For the drag race competition, Fred Del Mar Jr. of UA Legal Motorcycle Drag Race said there are at least 800 expected participants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The registration will be on the day of the competition.

The organizers of Sinulog sa SRP vowed that with the launching of the newest event intended for the Sinulog Festival, the celebration of the festival will be more joyous and colorful.
