CEBU, Philippines — Workers in the government will only be working half day today, October 31, to give government employees full opportunity to properly observe All Saints' Day on November 1, Malacañang announced yesterday.
Memorandum Circular 69 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea yesterday stated that this also to allow the government employees to travel to and from the different regions in the country.
However, Malacañang clarified that agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, as well as disaster response, would continue with their operations.
Suspension of classes in private schools and work in private companies is, meanwhile, left to the discretion of their respective heads or employers.
Cebu provincial government employees will also only report for half day today as per Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s confirmation. The employees will be dismissed at 12 noon today.
“We will follow accordingly also aron matagaan sad og time atong mga empleyado nga makauli (so we can give our employees time to go to their hometowns),” she said.
However, Garcia clarified that employees of the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office will have to stay on.
As for the governor herself, she is still set to work the entire day today.
She will be conducting a visit to the Cebu South Bus Terminal to oversee the new no ticket, no entry system and other measures taken to accommodate the influx of homebound passengers.
Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission also said that there will be no work in all CSC central and regional offices today starting at 12 noon.
But previously scheduled activities such as training programs and meetings with other government agencies will not be cancelled, it said.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta issued Memorandum Order 73-2019 enjoining all courts, including SC, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Court of Tax Appeals, Presidential Electoral Tribunal, and all first- and second-level courts) to observe a half-day work schedule until 12 noon today.
The Department of Labor and Employment had issued Labor Advisory 11 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 555 declaring November 1 and 2 as special non-working holidays. JMD (FREEMAN)
