Teban, 74, passes away
CEBU, Philippines — Former Provincial Board member and incumbent Talisay City Councilor Julian “Teban” Daan succumbed to heart failure at 4:50 p.m. yesterday at Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City. He was 74.
Daan, also a famous radio talent, was last seen in public attending the Philippine Councilor’s League (PCL) Cebu chapter election last Monday. His son, Lester, said his father was not able to finish the activity because he had difficulty in breathing.
Teban was brought to the hospital where his wife, PB Member Yolanda “Yoly” Daan was also confined for kidney dialysis since Saturday.
“Ang pari ang niestorya kang mama gabii (Tuesday) nga maunsa gani dawaton nalang kay lisud gyud ang kahimtang ni papa,” Lester said. As of this writing, Yoly was not yet informed about the death of her husband.
Teban had been under medication since undergoing heart bypass operation in December 2013. Days after his operation, Teban also underwent another surgery, this time for intestinal bleeding, in January 2014. He has also been under dialysis.
Lester said the 2019 elections could have triggered the heart condition of his father.
Teban first served as barangay councilman of Tabunok, Talisay City in 1982 then became a city councilor in 1987 before serving as PB member representing Cebu’s first district in 1998, 2001, 2007, 2010 and 2013.
He was picked by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia as runningmate when she first ran for governor in 2004. Teban lost to the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr.
He had also served as acting vice governor of Cebu from December 2012 until June 2013. After his term as PB member ended in 2016, Teban was again elected councilor in Talisay City until his death.
Teban, a popular radio personality, is one of the hosts of the top-rated radio drama “Kung Ako Ang Pasultihon” aired over dyHP every morning.
He was known for his moniker as Esteban Escudero, a character he played in the Cebuano radio and television drama “Ang Manok ni San Pedro.” — FPL (FREEMAN)
