CEBU, Philippines — All 700 regular employees of Mandaue City government will get a hefty amount of P25,000 each as anniversary bonus.

Mayor Jonas Cortes announced yesterday that he is granting Charter Day incentive to all workers of the city government. He said job order employees will also receive P5,000 each while Barangay Health and Nutrition Workers (BHNW) as well as  clean and green workers will get P2,400 each.

Mandaue City has 700 regular employees, 2,500 job order employees, 110 BHNW and 700 clean and green workers. The city will celebrate its 50th Charter Day on August 30.

The city, however, will be celebrating the milestone for the entire month of August. The city government has prepared several activities for the month. These include a human formation of number 50, opening of food park, job fairs, business/ investment summits, Bibingka Festival, Masareal and Tagaktak Festival, inter-department sports fest, concert, search for Mandaue City SK Federation ambassadress, awarding of outstanding government employees, Hiyas ng Cebu 2019, among others.

City Budget officer Atty. Giovanie Tianero said they have allocated P15 million for the anniversary celebrations.

"We have a lot to celebrate because after 50 years since becoming a city, Mandaue City is now a lone district," said Cortes.

It was Cortes’ father, former mayor Demetrio "Boy" Cortes, who was responsible for the city’s charter.

The younger Cortes was also responsible for making the city a lone congressional district.

The mayor urged all the Mandauehanons to join in the celebration.

"Hangyo lang gyud ko sa tanang Mandauehanons nga mo support sa atong mga activities. Let us make this celebration a success with the participation of everyone," he said.

Stanley Go, president of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said this year's Charter Day celebration will involve various sectors.

Steven Yu, MCCI vice president for internal affairs, said the celebration will showcase the city as a premier investment destination. (FREEMAN)
