CEBU, Philippines — A native from Bantayan, Cebu, Nicolas Escario served as mayor of Cebu from 1945 to 1946.
Escario finished his undergraduate studies at Ateneo de Manila and completed his degree in Doctor of Medicine at the University of Santo Tomas in 1923.
As a medical practitioner, Escario helped establish the Cebu General Clinic, a well-known pre-war private hospital, and was a longtime resident physician at Southern Islands Hospital.
As an educator, Escario made his mark as founder and first president of the Cebu Institute of Technology now CIT-University, a leading educational institution in Cebu.
