12 inmates wed inside Talisay jail

CEBU, Philippines — Twelve Talisay City Jail (TCJ) inmates tied the knot with their respective common-law partners during a mass wedding held at the facility Monday morning.

Monsignor Trinidad Silva solemnized the marriage between 10 male and two female inmates and their partners. Outgoing Mayor and first district Representative-elect Eduardo Gullas witnessed the wedding rites.

This was the second year in a row that TCJ management led by Senior Inspector Crisyrel Awe organized the mass wedding.

“They deserve this especially their wives and their children. This may also help the inmates in value reformation or transportation,” he said.

“This mass wedding allows our prisoners to enjoy the blessing of the sacrament of matrimony and further legitimize their relationship with their partners,” he added.

TCJ shouldered the expenses for the reception and the acquisition of documents.

The couples only spent for their gowns and barongs.

On February 14 last year, in time for the Valentine's Day, 24 couples exchanged “I Dos” during the first mass wedding inside the TCJ. (FREEMAN)
