More than 11T vacancies offered in today’s job fair

CEBU, Philippines — A total of 11,672 vacancies await jobseekers during the three simultaneous local and overseas job fairs today in time for the Independence Day celebration.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton, in a statement, said that the job fairs are expected to attract applicants from various industries.

These job fairs are to be jointly conducted by the respective Public Employment Service Offices of Bohol, Negros Oriental and Lapu-Lapu City,

In Lapu-Lapu City, Siaton said that the conduct of the job fair, which will be held at the Hoops Dome, Humay-Humay Road, will be patterned after the concept of Trabahao, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Job and Business Fairs.

Under its employment component, a total of 7,090 job vacancies were tallied from 21 participating employers. Of which, around 2,650 job orders are for local employment and about 4,440 for overseas.

For the Negosyo component, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will be doing one-on-one business coaching and registration of Barangay Micro-Business Enterprise and Business Name in its Negosyo Center.

Apart from said services, DTI, in coordination with participating companies, will also be facilitating so-called Diskwento Caravan offering and selling discounted items covering school supplies, kitchenwares, medicine, donuts and other frozen/processed products.

Under the Livelihood or Kabuhayan component and in close coordination with PESO-Lapu-Lapu City, livelihood beneficiaries will be showcasing products that are borne out of the livelihood assistance they received from the DOLE.

Siaton added that the One-Stop-Shop services will be available for everyone and that they have partnered with several agencies that will be rendering services to their clients for free.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board will also be accommodating queries on Kasambahay.

Among the agencies rendering services in Lapu-Lapu City would include the SSS, PAG-IBIG, Philheatlh, NBI, PSA, BIR, TESDA, POEA, OWWA, NRCO, and PRC.

Siaton further said that the common positions needed for local employment include customer service representatives, production workers, sales and marketing assistants, technical sales associates and electronic assemblers.

Vacancies posted for overseas employment are factory workers, cleaners, nurses, laborers, waiters, waitresses and assistant nurses.

DOLE will also be hiring government interns under its Government Internship Program (GIP).

  Siaton said that these interns will be tasked to profile child laborers, senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Central Visayas. (FREEMAN)
