200 cleaners in polling centers
CEBU, Philippines — At least 200 street cleaners will be deployed to clean the polling centers and streets from trash at 3 a.m. tomorrow.
Department of Public Services officer-in-charge John Paul Gelasque told The FREEMAN that his office decided to conduct cleanup operations to ensure cleanliness of the polling centers after the elections.
“Naa gyud ta ideploy ana but anhi na sa kadlawn manglimpyo kay gubot paman inig gabii ana,” Gelasque said. (We will deploy cleaners but they will start the cleaning operations at dawn.)
He said there are at least 31 dump trucks and compactor trucks ready for deployment that would haul the city’s generated trash to the final disposal site.
Gelasque expect a huge volume of trash to be collected after the elections.
Aside from the garbage thrown to the streets, the street cleaners will also collect campaign materials detached from posting areas.
Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office head Ma. Nida Cabrera said her office will not deploy Barangay Environmental Officers (BEOs) will not issue citation tickets to violators of environmental ordinances on Election Day.
Her office did not establish eco-stations in various polling centers considering that there are trash bins in schools already.
But Cabrera said the BEOs would help the DPS personnel in cleaning the city to fast track the clean-up operation.
“Wala mi BEO gideploy. Inig human ra (sa election) motabang mi og cleanup. Pagkakaron, lisod kaayo rong panahona, wala mi magdeploy ni-give way mi for election,” she said. (We did not deploy BEOs. After the elections, we will help in the cleanup.) (FREEMAN)
