Cops to confirm Franz’s death thru fingerprints

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 will be asking for a copy of the electronic fingerprint of self-confessed drug lord Franz Sabalones from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to confirm if he was the person killed in Quezon City.

Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas earlier said they are looking for scientific means, either finger printing or DNA testing, to confirm Sabalones’ death.

They looked for the immediate relatives of Sabalones in San Fernando town but they were not able to locate them.

“We were able to trace sa Comelec nga naay fingerprint si Franz Sabalones. I think our legal people here together with crime lab (laboratory) are asking for electronic copy of that from the Comelec,” he said.

The purpose of the request, Sinas said, is to compare the electronic fingerprint to the postmortem fingerprint of the man killed in Quezon City if they are the same person.

A man believed to be Sabalones was shot by an unidentified gunman at corner Scout Borromeo and Mother Ignacia Streets, in Barangay South Triangle last Maundy Thursday. He just alighted from a Grey Ford Ranger and was on his way to a billiard game with his friends when the shooting happened.

Earlier, Police Major Elmer Monsalve, chief of the Crimnal Investigation Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the fatality was Sabalones as identified by the victim’s cousin Joselito Cabilao. — MBG (FREEMAN)
