CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is planning to replicate the Sinulog security preparations for the National Youth Day.
CCPO operations chief Police Lt. Colonel Wilbert Parilla said they are anticipating over 12,000 registered pilgrims for the National Youth Day in Cebu. About 2,800 will be in Cebu City while the rest will be divided in nine other pilgrimage sites.
“Our expected participants will be around 12,000 registered pilgrims but not all will be in Cebu City. We have nine festival sites including those in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue cities and some parts in the
province,” Parilla said.
Parilla added they are expecting the number to increase as soon as the event starts since there are also local devotees joining.
There will be designated entrance and exit points. The entrance will be the main gate of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino while the exit will be the back portion of the church.
They are in close coordination with the church and other law enforcement agencies to ensure safety of the pilgrims who may flock for the religious activity.
The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) conducted a walkthrough to check the areas for deployment.
“There was a walkthrough in all the venues to make sure that the preparations are ready and to check the personnel deployed as well as some other adjustments that need to be done,” Parilla said.
He said that backpacks will not be allowed in the pilgrimage areas and parking is also prohibited as pilgrims will be ferried through buses from one place to another. (FREEMAN)
