CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City’s Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) has recommended to Mayor Tomas Osmeña to award the P232-million purchase of compactor trucks to Hino Motors.

BAC Head Ronald Malacora said that the city’s technical working group has reviewed the bid documents on the technical, legal, and financial capacity of Hino Motors.

“Ang BAC is ni recommend for awarding. Napasaka na nato ang purchase order last week. So, once ma approve ni mayor, ma release na sa supplier,” he told reporters.

Malacora is referring to the purchase of 21 compactor trucks for the garbage collection program of the city government.

After the issuance of the notice of award, the 21 compactor trucks will be delivered to the city in 60 to 90 days, he said.

Malacora added the city government will be able to save over P80 million, since Hino Motors’ bid price is P4 million lower than the P12 million allocated price for each of the unit.

“Dili siya ma-cover sa election ban kay ang compactor trucks is going to be used sa garbage collection, dili siya covered ana,” he said.

In 2018, the city government allocated P133.67 million for the rental of garbage trucks and P286.8 million for the hauling of garbage with a total amount of P420 million for the garbage collection and disposal.

For this year, the Department of Public Services has allocated P201.3 million for garbage collection, P64.5 million rental of garbage trucks, P232.5 million purchase of 21 compactor trucks for the garbage collection and disposal.

The purchase of compactor trucks will allow the city to spend lesser in the garbage collection and disposal because it will be spending only for the tipping fee, and not for rentals and private haulers anymore.

Malacora said the DPS should have a backup plan for the garbage disposal of the city considering that the compactor trucks will be delivered by July or August this year. (FREEMAN)
