CEBU, Philippines — The National Police Commission-7 denied that they are the source of the text message circulating that names Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña as among those in the update drug watchlist.
Homer Mariano Cabaral, Napolcom-7 director, said the message is ‘fake news’.
He also explained that they will not announce the involvement of a government official through a text message.
"Sakto gyud si mayor Osmeña, Fake news gyud na. Ang NAPOLCOM mo release gani og official statement sa publiko naa tay protocol nga gi-follow di lang nasa text," Cabaral said. (Mayor Osmena was right. It’s fake news. Napolcom follows a protocol in releasing information. We will issue an official statement and not through text.)
He added that if a local chief executive is included on the drug watchlist of President Rodrigo 'Digong' Duterte, Napolcom central office will immediately issue a resolution to withdraw the police power of the mayor.
Cabaral stressed that as of now, there is no updated drug watchlist yet.
"That is misinformation. We don’t have a new list. I called the central office," Cabaral said.
Napolcom will check the source of the text message. —/MBG (FREEMAN)
