CEBU, Philippines — Some barangay tanods in Cebu City have complained over the delay in the disbursement of their monthly honoraria.
The tanods reportedly did not receive their honoraria for the months of November and December last year.
Garry Lao, Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) chief, said the tanods failed to submit the necessary documents, such daily time record (DTR) and authority to serve, among others.
He pointed out that the giving of cash incentives to barangay tanods is not an obligation of the city but rather a “privilege” for the workers.
“For tanods to avail of the honorarium, they need to comply with all the requirements,” he said.
But the tanods’ wives, in a text message to Lao, called him a liar after issuing a statement that COSAP is on track with the distribution of cash aid.
A barangay tanod gets P4,000 monthly honorarium from the city government.
COSAP records showed that the city government disbursed the honoraria of tanods in 18 villages.
As of yesterday, 16 barangays in the south district and 19 barangays in the north district submitted the requirements for the month of December last year.
For COSAP to process the tanods’ honoraria, they are required to submit their DTRs, individual accomplishment report, authority to serve and consolidated report, which will be made by their respective chief of tanod.
The authority to serve will be signed by the mayor, signifying that the barangay tanod underwent a drug test facilitated by COSAP. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
