Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  It will be easier and faster for the people who are planning to get their community tax certificate in Cebu City Hall this year with the online application in place.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the City Treasurer’s Office showcases the online application of community tax certificate or cedula.

“Instead of having to spend time writing your information and waiting in City Hall, you can now go the Cebu City website and enter your details there. After, you will be able to bring your reference number and ID to the Treasurer’s Office for a quick interview to validate the initial assessment of amount to be paid by the system. You can go directly to the cashier,” the mayor said.

In his official Facebook account, Osmeña said the innovation will save the public travel time.

Before, the City Treasurer Office would receive several complaints from the public because of long lines before they can get their community tax certificates.

Now, anyone can apply and input their details on the website www.cebucity.gov.ph and click the Business Permit and Cedula icon.

The instructions are provided in the website like the filling out of information needed such as name, address, place of birth, citizenship, among others.

Osmeña said the process will save time since the application online will only take few minutes and applicants will no longer have to wait for long queues.

“Not only does this save you time from having to wait in City Hall, it also gives you the opportunity to review and verify all your details from the comfort of your own home,” the mayor said.

For those who do not have computer or smartphones, there are kiosks outside the payment center at City Hall where city’s staff will assist applicants in doing the application online.

Last year, the city showcased the new online application of in the search for the Digital Cities Philippines Awards for Best Practices in eGovernance.

The search was initiated by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

It is aimed to encourage the effective delivery of services thereby giving chance to other local government units to replicate the best practices of other local government units. — MBG (FREEMAN)
