CEBU, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO)-7 Cebu City District Office will soon transfer to a new location which will be located at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

LTO-7 Regional Director Victor Caindec said that the new site for its district office is made possible without any expense on their part except for computers and provision of personnel to handle the transactions.

Marion Concordia Saguisag, Robinsons Land Corporation mall operations manager, said they will be spending around P7 million to P8 million for the fixtures, tiles, paints, among others for the 400-square-meter district office.

"Once the memorandum of agreement is finalized then we will immediately start in renovating the place," said Saguisag.

Caindec said they expect to operate the place as a district office by next year.

But in the meantime, the place will be used as a Temporary Offsite Printing Office of LTO-7 by next week.

Mark Richmund de Leon, Department of Transportation assistant secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure, said yesterday that this is an effort wherein government does not have to spend for an office building but in partnership with the private sector.

Saguisag added that as part of their corporate social responsibility, LTO will not be paying any rental fee except for the water and electricity bills.

De Leon added that government agencies offices

located inside the malls would be very convenient on the part of the transacting public and at the same time provide foot traffic on the part of the malls.

Last week, LTO-7 also formally opens its second Mega Licensing Center in Central Visayas located at the Island Central Mall in Lapu-Lapu City.

Caindec said that the center will cater to applicants for new license, renewal of license and student permits.

Caindec said that this new mega license center will not only cater applicants from Lapu-Lapu City but anywhere in the country as their network is interconnected.

An LTO office in Sante Fe in Bantayan Island will also open on the first week of December of this year.

The licensing and registration center will cater to applicants not just from Sante Fe but also from Bantayan and Madridejos. — MBG (FREEMAN)
