CEBU, Philippines — Spectators of Sinulog 2019 will expect a grander celebration next year as the Cebu City Government and the Sinulog Foundation Inc. prepared new activities for next year’s festivity.

City Councilor David Tumulak, over-all chairman of Sinulog 2019, said there are different activities at the Fuente Osmeña Circle, Plaza Independencia, and at the South Road Properties (SRP).

“Sa Fuente, wala tay activities this year tungod sa traffic. For next year, ang Fuente mo-showcase ta sa barangay delicacies and livelihood sa kada barangay ug duna pod nightly activities,” he told reporters.

Tumulak said 80 booths for all barangays in the city will be accommodated at the Fuente Osmeña Circle.

To get away with traffic congestion, enforcers will be deployed there and the pedestrian lane from the circle to the previous police station will be transferred going to a bank along Osmeña Boulevard, he said.

For Plaza Independencia, Tumulak said several food stalls will be put there while nightly activities will entertain the crowd.

Tumulak said concerts and big events will be at the SRP.

“Awhag namo sa mga establishments nga mo-inform na sila sa ilang plans nga concerts or any events para ma apil sa calendar of activities ug ma-organize nato ang safety ug makatag ang crowd and decongest ang traffic sa isa ka area,” he said.

Specific dates for biggest competitions for Sinulog 2019 are already being finalized.

Tumulak said the Sinulog sa Lalawigan that will be participated by contingents from the different municipalities and cities of the Cebu Province will be on January 12.

The Sinulog sa Barangay will follow the following day, while the Grand Parade will be on January 20.

Tumulak said there are 13 barangays that have registered for the Sinulog sa Barangay.  This include Suba, Sawang Calero, Basak San Nicolas, Guadalupe, Labangon, Sapangdaku, Talamban, Mabolo, Mambaling, Cogon Pardo, Cambinocot, San Nicolas Proper, and Inayawan.

As for the Sinulog sa Lalawigan, at least four contingents have already expressed interest to join like Talisay, Carcar, Bogo, and Ginatilan.

Tumulak urged all interested contingents to register until November 16, since organizers will just allow 25 contingents. (FREEMAN)
