CEBU, Philippines — Donations in cash and in kind continue to pour in for the victims of the massive September 20 landslide in the City of Naga.
The Cebu City Hall employees, two Korean firms, and Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) have turned over P85,000 in cash, P1 million worth of goods, and P1 million in cash, respectively, to Naga Mayor Kristine Chiong yesterday.
The government workers pooled their resources to help landslide victims.
Aside from the supplies and cash donations, the Cebu City government has also been extending assistance to Naga like the manpower for the retrieval operations, and medical supplies, among others.
"From day one, we are the first responder sa search and rescue operations. Then secondly, nihatag ta og operational supports such as portalets and tubig," said Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) head Nagiel Bañacia.
Also, representatives from two Korean companies gave P1 million worth of goods to Naga government. They were accompanied by Cebu City Councilors Raymond Alvin Garcia and Renato "Junjun" Osmeña Jr.
It was Garcia who tapped the companies to help Naga.
Bruce Lee of JB Armor Wholesale Corp. said he never hesitated to extend aid since he has been residing in Cebu for 10 years already.
Another P1 million cash aid was handed over by Jae Han Go of KEPCO Philippines Corp. and Jong Ryoon Yoon of KEPCO SPC Power Corp to Chiong yesterday afternoon.
Earlier, the Cebu City government has pledged to donate P1 million in cash for Naga.
The donation is still being processed and is subject for the City Council’s approval.
The donation would reportedly be used to fund for the construction of a daycare center.
Chiong, in an interview, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the city government and other stakeholders who extended their help to Naga.
"I am very grateful sa city government, they were the first responders diri sa search and rescue and ilahang personnel sa city hall para motabang nato sa management sa atoang evacuation centers," she said. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
