CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) will be implementing a rehabilitation program for the inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CDPDRC).
Ivy Durano – Meca, head of CPADAO, said the rehabilitation will not only focus on drug dependent inmates but it will be a "mental treatment" for all the prisoners inside the jail facility.
“The rehabilitation part of CPDRC is absent. Mao na sya nga ang CPADAO right now is focused on the rehabilitation program sa mga inmates. It will be the same as MIOP or the Matrix Intensive Outpatient Program," Meca said.
She added drug dependent inmates will automatically fall under the drug rehabilitation program of CPADAO while the others will be subjected to a "mental treatment."
The rehabilitation program will have four sections — medical, psychological, social, and spiritual.
The medical section will focus on the health of the inmates which will be handled by the medical personnel of CPDRC from the Provincial Health Office.
"The medical and the physical exam will be taken care of by PHO. This includes giving medication to inmates if duna sila’y dual diagnosis," Meca said.
Meca also said they are proposing to the governor to have a memorandum of agreement with a psychiatrist who will be on call and will run the psychiatric assessment and evaluation of the inmates.
This will fall under the psychological aspect of the rehabilitation program.
On the social aspect, the rehabilitation will focus on education, skills training and group therapy. This will be handled by a social worker while the fourth aspect which is the spiritual, they will tap a religious organization to help inmates.
She said their proposed rehabilitation program will be presented during the Capitol department heads meeting on June 4. (FREEMAN)
