CEBU, Philippines — The plan to allow public utility jeepneys plying the Talisay and Tabunok route to temporarily use the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) will not push through.
Ahmed Cuizon, Regional Director of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-7 met with Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas yesterday and they agreed to conduct further study and consider other alternatives to address traffic congestion on N. Bacalso Ave.
"Ang nasabutan sa grupo, we will go back to the drawing board, reconfigure aron matun-an ang lain options possible,” he said.
Initially, Cuizon said that they are considering of giving special permits to 10 buses that will bring passengers from Starmall in Barangay Lawaan, Talisay to Compania Maritima in Cebu City.
He said passengers will be fetched from Starmall as he proposed that PUJs from San Fernando, Naga and Minglanilla will only be allowed up to the mall in Lawaan.
But Gullas did not support the proposal.
Talisay peace and order consultant Cecil Ezra Sandalo also did not support it sayingTalisay roads are already congested and the proposed plan to allow more buses at the CSCR will worsen the situation
“Considering the inputs from the mayor himself, we will go back to the drawing board, come up with other alternatives nga mao i-adopt to help decongest Natalio Bacalso Avenue which is the main problem. Sa pagkakarun, status quo. As is lang usa,” Cuizon added.
They will meet again on March 20 to discuss the matter further. (FREEMAN)
