CEBU, Philippines — The Land Trans-portation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFB)-7 has apprehended 29 erring taxi drivers in December last year.
Based on the Inspection Report Summon released by LTFRB-7 regional director Ahmed Cuizon, violations of the taxi drivers include refusal to ferry passengers, overcharging, discourtesy, arrogance, colorum, no uniform, contracting, reckless driving and contracting passengers.
These violations carry penalties of least P6,000 while colorum taxi units were impounded.
Some of the apprehended taxi drivers underwent a two-day seminar while majority of the complaints against them are due for hearing.
The Oplan Isnabero campaign of LTFRB aims to remind taxi drivers that refusing to ferry passengers is a punishable act. It also aims to ensure the safety and convenience of the riding public.
Cuizon, likewise, urged the public to report to their office any violations committed by the taxi drivers.
Taxi fare in Cebu is expected to increase after the Sinulog on January 21.
In October last year, LTFRB approved a new taxi fare rate. The flag down rate is P40 and succeeding rate is P13.50 for every kilometer instead of P3.50 for every 300 meters. The P3.50 rate for every two minutes of waiting time is no longer in effect but commuters will be charged P2 for every minute of their travel time.
LTFRB however assured last week that there will be no fare increase for other public utility vehicles until March. (FREEMANNEWS)
