CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) is advising tourists flocking to Cebu City for the Sinulog to keep a close watch on their valuables and exercise personal vigilance.

PRO-7 spokesperson Reyman Tolentin told The FREEMAN that this goes for all locales, particularly around the Sinulog route where people are expected to converge.

“For those who have not yet come here, and will be coming here for the first time, it’s not advisable that they will carry with them jewelries and expensive gadgets and show it to the public especially sa time nga people converge, and be smart enough when you are in the streets,” Tolentin said.

He said that tourists visiting for the first time, should try to locate the nearest police station or at least get hold of police contact numbers in case of emergency.

Tolentin added that station commanders are directed to raise awareness on security through effective information dissemination.

“Crime prevention tips na ipaabot sa foreigners nga mudagsa diri, one is through our tourist police, ma-aware atong mga bisita nga dili imposible makawatan sila especially sa known areas,” Tolentin said.

He said that crime-prone areas have been located in advance by the respective commanders as well.

“Our field commanders know asa ang crime-prone areas, this will be their look up to inform or increase the awareness of our visitors,” Tolentin said. —JBB (FREEMANNEWS)
