CEBU, Philippines — For the first time in recent years, the first University in Cebu, University of the Visayas, will have a lighting of Belen and Christmas tree tomorrow at 5:30 in the afternoon.
UV Executive Vice President Jose R. Gullas said "it'll be the first time perhaps for an academic institution to have a ceremonial lighting of nativity commonly known as Belen.”
Gullas said Cebuanos know the significance of Belen as it signifies the birth of Christ and that their homes will not be complete without the Belen during Christmas.
Students, faculty and staff will gather around the main lobby of the university and will be treated to a musical extravaganza featuring the internationally recognized University of the Visayas Chorale, the 2017 Grand Champion in the National Music Competition for Young Artists Foundation (NAMCYA) Adult Category held last November 22-25 in Manila.
The chorale will be joined by the UV Filipiniana Dance Troupe and the JRG Visayanian Orchestra. (FREEMAN)
