New councilor assumes office in Lapu-Lapu City

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Newly-appointed Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Jeannify Tan-Dungog has officially assumed the vacant post in the City Council following the death of councilor Damian Gomez Jr. last March 2.

Dungog took her oath of office last Monday before Regional Trial Court Branch 53 Presiding Judge Anna Marie Militante in Lapu-Lapu City.

She paid a courtesy call on Mayor Paz Radaza and gave copy of her appointment and oath of office. Dungog is set to attend the City Council at 1:30 p.m. today.

“I am deeply honored to be given the mandate by no less than our President to carry out, within the city, his policy against graft and corruption and the proliferation of illegal drugs,” said Dungog.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the appointment of Dungog last September 4.

“I am apprehensive because politics is not my cup of tea but I am at the same time excited and ready to take on this new challenge,” Dungog said.

She assured that the present administration can take comfort in the fact that she will support programs which, to her mind, will benefit the Oponganons and the City of Lapu-Lapu as a whole.

“My conscience and my knowledge of the law shall be my only guide in this new journey,” added Dungog.

Dungog graduated Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Bachelor of Laws. She has been in the practice of law since 2005 with focus on commercial and civil laws.

Dungog is the wife of lawyer Ferdinand Dungog who ran for city councilor but lost in the last May 2016 elections under Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban). (FREEMAN)
