Tomas off to China for sisterhood agreement
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is on a three-day official trip to Chengdu, China to discuss possible sisterhood agreement.
The mayor took the 5 a.m. flight to China yesterday together with City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Nagiel Bañacia. Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña said her husband was invited by Chengdu officials.
In the absence of the mayor, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella will serve as acting mayor until Thursday.
Meanwhile, Cebu City and Haarlemmermeer will be jointly celebrating the 25th anniversary of its sisterhood.
The mayor and other city officials, including former councilor Alvin Dizon, will compose the city delegation to Haarlemmermeer on June 12. Margot assured that no government fund will be spent for the trip.
Human Resource and Development Office head lawyer Marie Velle Abella said they have discussed the preparations with the officials of Haarlemmermeer.
She said Haarlemmermeer even asked if the city still needs emergency vehicles like ambulance and fire truck.
Abella believes that Haarlemmermeer is planning to donate equipment. (FREEMAN)
