CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed while a woman was shot in the chest in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City and Dalaguete town yesterday and Thursday.
In Cebu City, a volunteer worker was shot dead beside an establishment located along P. Lopez Street, Barangay Sto. Niño around two in the morning yesterday.
The victim was identified as Michael Malacca, a volunteer for a private non-government organization called Regional Emergency Assistance Communications Team (REACT).
Based on the account of Iris Ubanan, a security guard of an establishment near where the crime scene, she was alerted when she heard two gunshots.
Ubanan then saw a blood-stained Malacca fling the establishment’s door open, asking for help.
Moments after, the victim collapsed and personnel from the emergency response team declared him dead on the spot because of the two gunshot wounds to his face and back.
The victim was positively identified through his identification card found amongst his possessions inside a sling bag, which also contained important documents and cash in different denominations.
Responding police recovered empty slugs from a firearm of yet undetermined caliber.
No sign of robbery was detected.
Shot in Dalaguete
Meanwhile in Dalaguete, a Tokhang surrenderer was shot dead by an unidentified person on board a motorcycle in Barangay Coro Thursday afternoon.
The victim was identified by police as Nhecargie Romero, 19, a resident of Barangay Coro.
Police Officer 3 Arnel Calisang said, based on witness accounts, Romero had just come from attending a fiesta celebration at a nearby barangay and was parking his motorcycle at the construction site where he worked when an unidentified person riding an XRM Honda motorcycle and wearing a face mask stopped in front of him.
The masked rider asked Romero if he could park his motorcycle beside the victim.
Romero then politely accommodated the suspect, saying ‘Ilugar lang gamay bay kay blind curve ra ba.’
After the victim replied, the suspect got off the motorcycle and suddenly drew a .45 caliber pistol and immediately shot the victim several times, killing him instantly.
Injured
In Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, a woman was shot in broad daylight by two unidentified suspects riding a motorcycle at La Paloma Village, at around 2 p.m. yesterday.
Marissa Taradio Cabillo, 30, a resident of Barangay Mambaling, said in her testimony that she had been walking along the street when two persons onboard a black motorcycle stopped in front of her.
