Borbon cop relieved for ‘tolerating’ partner

CEBU, Philippines - The Borbon policeman, whose common-law wife was arrested for her alleged involvement in illegal gambling, was relieved from his post and was transferred to the holding unit of Cebu Provincial Police Office last Monday.

Police Superintendent Jaime Quiocho, Chief of the Police Community Relations Office, said the lack of action of the policeman in his partner’s illegal activities was the ground of his relief.

“Iyon yong involvement niya considering that he’s a police officer and he should be the one initiating such action para iyung kumbaga kapamilya ay ma-curb kung anuman ang illegal activity na ginagawa,” Quiocho said.

Police Officer 1 Dominador Banzon, Borbon Police Station’s Desk Officer, was placed under investigation after he allegedly tolerated his partner’s involvement in illegal gambling.

Police Intelligence Branch operatives arrested last week Banzon’s partner, Jenny Suson, 28, after she allegedly got involved in the illegal number games locally called ‘masiao.’

Quiocho added that Banzon may possibly face administrative and criminal cases if they find enough evidences linking him to Suson's activities.

“Administrative case as well as, siguro kung may ebidensiya, he’s also be charged criminally depende na sa makukuhang ebidensiya laban sa kanya,” Quiocho said.

He also said that the police have the liability in his partner’s involvement in illegal gambling.

“Siyempre parang tino-tolerate niya.  The fact na alam niya na  iyong live-in partner niya ay may ginagawang illegal, hindi siya gumawa ng aksyon, karampatang askyon, para ito ay masugpo o malabanan, wala siyang ginawa.  So, iyun ang liability niya,” Quiocho said.

Quiocho added that Banzon’s relief should serve as a warning to all police personnel.

“This will serve as a warning to all PNP personnel to not tolerate any illegal activity being done by their relatives.  Pag alam nilang anyone ay involved and if they know it, they have the knowledge, gumawa na sila ng aksyon para hindi na sila magaya kay PO1Dominador Banzon,” he said. (FREEMAN)
