CEBU, Philippines - A private developer is undertaking the transfer of Bogo Central Transport Terminal from its present location in Barangay Gairan to Cayang where a mall and hotel will be constructed.
Bogo City Mayor Carlo Jose Martinez said that Robinsons Land Corporation is undertaking the P80-million project starting last January. It is expected to be completed in July at no cost to the city government.
“Ang Robinsons gustong mo-gauge unsa ka dak-a ang mall nga itukod by starting a bus terminal para ma-measure nila ang traffic unsa ka daghan mangagi sa City of Bogo,” Martinez said.
The transport terminal facility will be operating 24/7 to accommodate transients and commuters who are bound to and from Cebu City, municipalities and other cities in northern Cebu.
It will have loading and unloading bays for buses, jeepneys, and vans. Its facilities include a terminal office, comfortable passenger waiting area, baggage area, male and female toilets with PWD toilet, and an array of food cart choices.
Martinez said the investor will turn over the project to the city upon its completion and the city will operate.
It is stipulated in the partnership agreement that Robinsons will be exempted from paying real property taxes for five years.
“All revenue generated sa traffic sa bus terminal, taxes, fees, charges, all go to the city,” Martinez said.
Martinez explained they have been eyeing the transfer of the existing transport terminal to prevent big buses from entering the Poblacion area with narrow roads.
“Lipay mi, mag-rerouting mi para di na gyud ka sud sa sentro ang dagko nga bus for the safety pud sa mga residents,” he said.
City Public Information and Communications Office chief Rhett Vincent Minguez also said the transfer of bus terminal would decongest the city center considering the number of new commercial establishments including fast foods chains now in the area. (FREEMAN)
