Carmen floods affect MCWD water supply

CEBU, Philippines - At least seven towns and cities, including Cebu City, experienced low pressure to no water supply for more than 24 hours since Sunday because of typhoon Crising.

Metropolitan Cebu Water District spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara said the water supply was affected due to the turbidity of the water source in Compostela brought about by the floods.

Kara said the water supply in Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova and some parts of Cebu City came from Luyang River in Carmen town through Cebu Manila Water Development.

Kara said their supplier was only able to deliver 1,000 cubic meters as of noon yesterday. MCWD normally supplies 35,000 cubic meters daily.

"Naay areas nga naa nay agas but naa pa gyud daghan nga wa pa gyuy agas," Kara said. She said they are still monitoring the water turbidity in Luyang River before the supplier could resume its normal operation.

"Around 34,000 cu. m. more is expected from the source that suffered from turbidity due to the floods brought about by the heavy rains this weekend," said Kara. (FREEMAN)
