Japanese national arrested for child prostitution

CEBU, Philippines - A 50-year-old Japanese national was arrested in Mandaue City during an entrapment operation yesterday afternoon over alleged involvement in child prostitution.

The suspect was identified as Takeshi Kon, a native of Kanagawa, Japan and temporary resident of Lapu-Lapu City.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 chief Superintendent Royina Garma said they received information last week about a foreigner abusing a 15-year-old girl.

The victim reported to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station that she was sexually abused by the suspect. The minor met the suspect two weeks ago through her friend.

“May report na ang fifteen-year-old girl was sexually abused. Na meet niya ang suspect through a classmate before. Natingala siya nga ni result sa sexual exploitation,” Garma said.

The victim alleged that she was raped by the suspect sometime in February. A separate complaint for rape will be filed against the suspect.

“Naay attempt nga i-check-in sa hotel but wala gi-allow. So sa loob ng sasakyan nahitabo,” she said, adding that the minor was given P1,000 after the incident..

Garma is calling other possible victims of the suspect to report to CIDG-7 office to file a complaint.

“According sa victim, daghan nasad daw na-victim ning Japanese,” she said.

Kon will be charged with violation of Section 6 (attempt to commit child prostitution) of Republic Act 7610 otherwise known as Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

The suspect refused to issue statement about the allegations. (FREEMAN)
