CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Manuel Cabriana is seeking an inventory of garbage trucks after he found out that only three of 10 are serviceable.
Cabriana, chairman of the committee on sanitation and solid waste management, passed a resolution requesting the General Services Office to immediately account for the city’s garbage trucks.
Cabriana said the three garbage trucks currently servicing the entire city are not enough to collect all the garbage. Cabriana said he will inform Mayor Eduardo Gullas about it.
Gullas has reportedly allocated funds to purchase one or two additional garbage trucks for the city. Edwin Nierves, head of Talisay City solid waste management, said there are 19 garbage trucks from the barangays helping them in the garbage collection.
He, however, admitted that these are still not enough. He said at least 110 tons of garbage are being collected every day in the city, most of these garbage are from Tabunok Public Market.
GSO head Joan Vebar said the unserviceable trucks are already up for disposal, adding they have already asked the Commission on Audit to allow the city to dispose of these trucks.
Aside from seeking inventory of the garbage trucks, Cabriana also sponsored a resolution for the purchase of deodorizers. The twin resolutions of Cabriana were approved by the council yesterday. (FREEMAN)
