In Cordova, Cebu: 10,000 Roses café opens; people troop for selfies
CEBU, Philippines - Still clueless where to bring your “significant other” to spend a romantic date this Valentine's Day?
Well, the 10,000 Roses Cafe and More in Barangay Day-as in Cordova, Cebu may just be the place for the both of you.
This place is adorned with 10,000 white roses made of cotton and plastic, with a steel bar to serve as a stem for the flowers to stand on.
"I am shocked. I didn't expect this. So many people are coming here. It's amazing. Some would drink our coffee and some came here just to take selfies with the flowers but that's okay. I am happy," said Korean Miguel Cho, the chief executive officer of the coffee shop.
As an interior designer himself, Cho, whose real name is Ah Seong Cho, was the one who designed the pieces of furniture inside the coffee shop.
The coffee shop has a unique attraction that all roads lead to the place not just to drink coffee but most of all to take selfies with the 10,000 roses.
"The roses are white because white symbolizes purity. I want them to experience and begin their love story here. The place is so romantic. You can also see the beauty of the sea and the sky while drinking your coffee," the 30-year-old Cho said.
At night, the beauty of the 10,000 roses sparkles when these are lighted.
Cho said he wants it to be a symbol of pure love.
The coffee shop that has a view deck on top and is situated in a 3,300-square-meter lot, has another attraction, the Love Locks Fence, wherein lovers or couples have a padlock that they can seal their love for each other by the fence.
Cho said that he got an inspiration from Dongdaemum Design Plaza at Dongdeamum Square in Seoul, South Korea when he conceptualized the idea in creating the 10,000 Roses.
He said that this concept is the first in the country and he is glad that Cebuanos love it.
Cho is the stepson of Cordova Mayor Therese "Tetche" Sitoy-Cho. His father is Charlie Cho, who is also president of the Korean Association in Cebu. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
