CEBU, Philippines - The prisoner and visitor computerized management system of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center is set to be operational this March.
Dr. Gil Macato, CPDRC acting jail warden, said they are now completing the profiling of around P2,800 inmates in the system as well as the biometrics data and database of jail visitors.
Around 2,000 inmates’ details were already encoded in the system.
“We are fast-tracking the encoding of data so we can already run it next month,” he said.
Capitol workers assigned in CPDRC are encoding each inmate’s photograph, index finger print, background information and names of his or her guests.
The system, Macato said is on a test run to ensure that there are no glitches during its launching.
“We want it to fully function without defects. We hope for a smooth implementation,” he said.
The system, which is a data bank, can be used by Capitol investigators or any investigating agency, upon request.
Jail personnel will also have updates on inmates’ case status and conditions, said Macato.
He said the system likewise provides a modern solution by which the jail authority and government can safely and securely manage prisoner and visitor identities based on the encoded detailed data.
It would also enable CPDRC management to control access inside the facility, like conjugal rooms for guests and cells for inmates.
“We can easily keep track of the prisoners’ records and monitor the visits of the inmates’ relatives,” Macato said.
Once the system is in use, visitors will be required to encode their information to verify that they are indeed registered in the database.
They, however, would still go through a similar process of security inspections upon entering to prevent smuggling of contraband inside the province-run facility. (FREEMAN)
