CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas is upset over the slow progress in the construction of the new Tabunok Public Market.
Gullas is complaining why it took so long for the contractor to finish the demolition of the two old market buildings. The mayor said he was expecting that the old buildings would have been demolished by now since the groundbreaking happened on September 28 yet.
The demolition of the old market buildings is part of the phase 1 of the construction. It is worth P52 million and is scheduled to be completed on April 8 next year while the phase 2 is worth P98 million.
"Ako gimud-an hinay kaayo ang pag-demolish sa building going to Lagtang and Minglanilla. I told them I'm not happy kay ang pagguba suppose to be faster kaysa sa pagtukod," Gullas said.
City Engineer Gamaliel Vicente confirmed that the progress of the construction had been very slow.
"Naka observe ko nga hinay ang trabaho when in fact gipatawag nako sila kay na alarma man pud ko," he said.
Vicente said that the contractor, Tiamzon Construction, explained that the delay was caused by the construction of the temporary stalls of the vendors affected of the project.
The transfer of the electric meters also contributed to the delay because they need to process it with the Visayasn Electric Company.
But Gullas said the contractor should add more manpower to ensure that the deadline is met.
Both Gullas and Vicente have requested the contractor to adjust the number of working hours to hit the target date. (FREEMAN)
