CEBU, Philippines - To prevent water shortage, a P5.5-million waterworks system is set to be put up in Tudela town on Poro Island in the Camotes group in northern Cebu.
This after the Cebu Provincial Board has authorized Governor Hilario Davide III to enter into an agreement with PLD Construction for the supply of labor, materials and incidentals for the Phase III of Tudela Level III water system's expansion.
The PLD Construction was declared by the Bids and Awards Committee as the bidder with a single calculated and responsive bid (SCRB).
The contractor is given 55 calendar days for the execution, completion and the remedying of any defects of the project.
PB said they have given a go signal for the signing of agreement because the bidding has lawfully complied with the Republic Act 9184 , otherwise known as the Government Procurement Reform Act.
Board Member Jerome Christian Librando who authored the resolution said the water system is aimed at bringing in safe and potable water for the residents in the town.
The provincial government wants to prevent water scarcity as experienced by most towns and cities in the province last year due to the dry spell brought about by the El Niño phenomenon.
The scare of water reportedly worsened due to lack of water work systems in the province's barangays.
Last April, the Cebu provincial government, Manila Water Company Incorporated (MWCI) and Manila Water Philippine Ventures (MWPV) signed an agreement to create a feasibility study on water supply projects in Cebu.
After the Provincial Board placed Cebu under a state of calamity in April, MWCI and MWPV said it would continue to develop a large-scale water supply system that can accommodate the water supply and demand gap in the province.
It is projected that Cebu's demand for water would escalate to more than 500 million liters per day.
As agreed, the Capitol would allow MWPV to conduct a feasibility study on the planned water projects in Cebu. To do this, MWPV will be coordinating with the different municipalities, water districts, and water providers for any information necessary for the study. (FREEMAN)
