CEBU, Philippines - Cordova Mayor Adelino “Addy” Sitoy is reportedly dropping his party’s presidential candidate in favor of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Provincial Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy said his father, who is now on his last term and running for vice mayor under Liberal Party, was already seen on television meeting with Duterte.
“Duterte ko but I heard papa is also for Duterte. When Duterte was in town, papa was with him. You can ask papa because he was with Duterte on TV,” said Arleigh.
Addy, however, refused to confirm it, saying he will make the proper announcement at the proper time.
“I’ll disclose my personal choice in due time without involving my partymates,” Addy told The Freeman.
Addy’s daughter, Vice Mayor Mary Therese “Techie” Sitoy-Cho, is running for mayor of Cordova under LP against Arleigh, her half-brother. Arleigh, a former LP member, is running under Duterte’s PDP-Laban.
Addy’s brother, former Cordova mayor Celedonio “Celsi” Sitoy, who is running for congressional seat in Lapu-Lapu City lone district, is also supporting Duterte. Celsi is with mayoralty candidate Rolando Patalinjug.
Celsi and Patalinjug, however, have their own local party named “Team Kusgano Movement for Better Lapu-Lapu.” The party was named after Kusgano, the father of the city’s chieftain Datu Lapu-Lapu. — Gregg M. Rubio/FPL (FREEMAN)
