CEBU, Philippines - A man died on the spot while his teen companion was injured after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a dump truck along the national highway in Barangay Aliwanay, Balamban on Monday.
Police identified the fatality as Lee Michael Cuizon, 36, of Mandaue City and his companion as 19-year-old William Pulido of Balamban town. According to Police Officer 3 Yuri Colonia of Balamban Police Station, the accident happened at around 5 a.m. last Monday.
Prior to the incident, Colonia said, Cuizon was driving a Honda XRM motorcycle speedily while the Isuzu dump truck, driven by Andy Vasquez, 45, was coming out from a gasoline station at the roadside.
After refueling, the truck, which was loaded with sand and gravel, allegedly maneuvered to turn right but stopped in the middle of the road to move backward to make a turn.
However, before the truck could move backward, Cuizon’s motorcycle reportedly crashed into the front portion of the truck.
Because of the impact, half of the motorcycle got stuck under the truck while still in standing position while Cuizon and Pulido fell to the ground.
Cuizon died immediately while Pulido was rushed to Balamban Provincial Hospital. Vasquez voluntarily surrendered at Balamban Police Station but was released several hours later after settling the matter with the family of the victim. — (FREEMAN)
