Two charged for shooting man

CEBU, Philippines – Two men were charged by the prosecutor’s office before the court for allegedly conspiring with each other in trying to kill another man in Barangay San Nicolas, Cebu City.

Associate Prosecution Attorney Sarah Vanessa Lacno held Mark Vincent Mantalaba and Prince Roy Almario, both residents of the said barangay, for trial for the crime of frustrated murder.

"...that on the basis of the evidence presented, there is a reasonable ground to believe that the crime of frustrated murder has been committed and that the accused are probably guilty thereof," read the document.

Lacno recommended P40,000 bail each for Mantalaba and Almario.

Victim Johnny Tago, a resident of Barangay Suba, Cebu City, alleged that he was walking at Lakandula Street in San Nicolas proper while going home on January 24, at around 3:30 p.m., when he saw two men at some five meters away.

Allegedly with no apparent reason, the two men, who turned out to be Mantalaba and Almario, suddenly drew firearms from their waistline and shot the victim twice.

Tago was hit on his hip.

Tago went to the hospital for treatment before he went to the police station to report the incident.

He was shown various pictures from the gallery of the police station leading to the identification of the suspects. — (FREEMAN)
