Call center employees ask DOLE help on work status

CEBU, Philippines – Call center employees in Mandaue City sought assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment-7 after the company allegedly closed its operation.

Gerard Escobido, an emplo-yee of Eziconnect Company, said 15 of them went to DOLE-7 to seek clarification on their work status.

“Wa na mi nila gihatagan og trabaho pero wa sad mi nila gi-terminate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dennis Derige, Partido ng Manggagawa-Cebu spokesperson, said they will contact their labor counterpart in Australia to communicate with the company owner.

“The Australian owner should settle his unpaid obligations to his employees here,” he said.

Derige, who assisted the distraught workers, said they would also make a petition for Eziconnect to be banned from doing business in the Philippines.

Escobido said they still have to receive their salary for the December 30 payday.

“Ambot ani og mabayran pa ba mi ani kay wa na man niy klaro nga company. Mahug og nag-closed na sila unya wa mi kahibalo,” he said.

Escobido said their general manager and the accounting manager already resigned. —/RHM (FREEMAN)
