CEBU, Philippines - While crowds trooped to Barangay Lorega-San Miguel where the #AlDub tandem took part in a segment of noontime show Eat Bulaga!, the visit of the phenomenal love team to Cebu City yesterday was peaceful and did not disrupt vehicle traffic.
Cebu City Traffic Office director Rey Gealon said this was because the activity in Lorega took place in the interior portion of the barangay, thus, only interior roads were closed.
“We have contained the vehicles in the area, made them park at the de-signated parking spaces so as not to disrupt the normal flow of traffic inside. All went well according to plan,” Gealon said.
Eat Bulaga! shot its “Juan For All, All For Juan” segment in Lorega with the famous three elderly sisters played by actors and hosts Paolo Ballesteros, Wally Bayola, and Jose Manalo. Incidentally, it was also in this segment that the tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza was discovered.
CCTO operations chief Jonathan Tumulak said at least seven enforcers were deployed to the area to man traffic and assist motorists.
“Wala maka-cause og traffic sa Imus Street and Echavez Street kay sa interior roads ra sa barangay ra naa ang mga artista,” Tumulak said.
Information dissemination also helped, he said. Last Wednesday, December 16, residents in the area were informed in advance that the road in the interior portion will be closed and no vehicles would be allowed to park along the roads.
Vehicles didn’t have to be rerouted, he said.
“So, pag morning pa lang, nag- clear nami sa area. Gi-clear nato ang mga naka-park pa gyod and gi-close ang interior roads. Wala naka-cause og traffic kay usahay ra pod na agi-an ang interior roads, kasagaran private vehicles ra,” he said further.
Aside from traffic personnel, at least 22 cops from the Parian Police Station were also deployed to Barangay Lorega to secure the activity.
The station chief, Chief Insp. Errol Francis Deveyra, said the activity was carried out peacefully.
Police personnel from Camp Crame also flew with the GMA artists from Manila.
Late afternoon yesterday, the tandem also went to SM Seaside City to promote their movie with Vic Sotto and Ai Ai delas Alas but Tumulak said vehicle traffic at the South Road Properties where the mall is located remained manageable.
“Bisan hinuon wala’y artista, mao gyod ni ang situation sa traffic diri sa SRP basta peak hours,” he said.
The crowd at SM Seaside City was limited because only those who could purchase items worth P500 on December 16 and 17 or the movie card worth P215 were allowed entry at Sky Hall where the stars met the fans.
CCTO personnel were also deployed at the SRP to assist mall-goers. (FREEMAN)
