Means of escape: Two inmates splash guards with ‘chili-water’

CEBU, Philippines - Two inmates bolted out of Carcar City Jail on Tuesday night reportedly after throwing a mixture of water and chili to the jail guards.

Inmates Rodelio Apura, Junald Ramos and a third one escaped by jumping off from the second floor of the jail building, but the third one was soon recaptured while the two vanished into the dark.

Apura is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 while Ramos has a pending case for violation of the Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972.

Details of the escape were not immediately available but in a report over 24 Oras Central Visayas, Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura said the inmates prepared a mixture of water and chili and threw it on the face of the jail guards who were taking their rations at past 7 p.m.

“Ilang gisabligan ang jail guard nga nagkuha sa ilang rasyon. Gidasmagan ‘to sa piniriso ang mga jail guard unya ni-eskapo ni’ng tulo,” the mayor said.

Footage from the building’s security camera showed the three inmates jumping off the second floor to escape.

However, the jail guards caught one of the escapees and immediately put him back to prison. Apura and Ramos ran towards a dark portion of the area and successfully escaped.

The mayor immediately ordered a manhunt operation against the two escapees.

He also proposed to have chili banned inside the jail facility.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac also ordered a provincial-wide manhunt to assist BJMP-7.

The FREEMAN tried to call up Carcar City Jail for details, but the one who picked up the phone told this reporter to wait, then shortly after the line was cut.

Several attempts were made to contact the city jail again but the phone number could no longer be reached. — (FREEMAN)
