The Freeman wins in Milo sports writing tilt

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Sister publications The Freeman and Banat News scored big wins in the recent sports writing contest for the 39th edition of the National Milo Marathon Cebu leg bagging three awards in the Filipino and English categories.

Lemuel P. Maglinte won the first prize in the Filipino category with his article in Banat News titled ‘Misyon ni Mary Joy’.

The featured article talks about Cebu’s road running queen Mary Joy Tabal guiding and training young runners in her mission to help in finding potential athletes that can someday represent the country just like what she did when she claimed the silver medal in the recent Southeast Asian Games.

For her part, Caecent No-ot Magsumbol’s article in The Freeman titled “Sowing seeds of goodness after reaping Milo success” placed second in the English category.

In her article, Magsumbol talked about Tabal returning the favor given by God by harnessing the skills of the young aspiring runners from Guba, a far-flung barangay in the city of Cebu, where she proudly comes from.

Though she opted not to run for the Cebu race to take care of all the kids’ needs, Tabal felt every inch a winner after seeing three of CCSC’s bets landed at the top 10 in the 3K division that was participated in by 1,102 kids and adults alike.

Maglinte also claimed third place in the Filipino category with his Tillor nangambisyon og korona sa titulo sa Milo National Finals.

For their feats, Maglinte and Magsumbol got P10,000 and P8,000 in cash prizes, respectively. (FREEMAN)
