CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle driver died after he was hit by a Ceres bus in Barangay Sagay, Borbon town past 8 a.m. yesterday.

Wendel Comilang, 21, of Barangay Bongdo, Borbon was pronounced dead on arrival at the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital due to severe head injury.

Ceres bus driver Jezroel Lecciones, 41, of Barangay Tambongon, San Remigio, was detained at the Borbon Police Station after the accident.

Police Officer 2 Rogelio Sinadjan, desk officer of Borbon Police Station, said that early morning yesterday, Comilang was driving his motorcycle on his way back to Cebu City while the Ceres bus was transporting passengers from Cebu City to Bogo City.

Sinadjan said that based on the statements they gathered from witnesses, the bus was running at high speed.

Sinadjan said that witnesses told them that the motorcycle crossed the intersection of the national highway and the provincial road, and was hit by the bus. The motorcycle was dragged by the bus as Comilang fell and hit the road head first.

“Ang motorcycle gikan sa provincial road sa Sagay ni-cross sa national highway padulong sa Cebu City, wala pa kaabot sa center line naigo sa Ceres nga padulong sa Bogo,” Sinadjan said.

The victim was immediately brought to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Comilang’s family reportedly went to the police station but it was not clear if they are pressing charges against the bus driver.

The driver hopes to settle the case amicably and promises to shoulder the expenses for the burial of the victim.  (FREEMAN)
