CEBU, Philippines - A barangay’s fiesta celebration ended badly after a public school teacher, who was attending a disco in a covered court, was stabbed by a drunk man past 2 a.m. Sunday in Barangay Maluray, Dalaguete town.
Raul Paz, a resident of Barangay Casay and a teacher of Malones Elementary School, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Barili District Hospital after suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The suspect, Crispin Tangpos, a resident of Barangay Maluray, Dalaguete, immediately fled the area and is now under a hot pursuit operation by the police.
Police Officer 3 Jehaziel Hoyo-a, desk officer of Dalaguete Police Station, said Barangay Maluray was celebrating its fiesta in honor of their second patron saint.
Hoyo-a said according to witnesses, the victim was just seated inside the covered court when Tangpos suddenly pulled out a bladed weapon and approached the teacher.
Without saying anything, Tangpos stabbed Paz several times.
The partygoers rushed to help Paz and were also able to disarm Tangpos. However, Tangpos managed to run away from the angry mob.
Paz was brought to the Julio Cardinal Rosales hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Operatives of Dalaguete Police Station are still conducting a hot pursuit operation to arrest the Tangpos. (FREEMAN)
